On 9 February 2021, the Premier announced a suite of reforms to address serious youth offending in Queensland. A Youth Crime Taskforce, formerly known as the Youth Justice Taskforce, was also established to provide whole-of-government strategic leadership and advice to help reduce recidivist youth offending and promote community safety.

A key function of the taskforce is to promote and strengthen coordination between various agencies to reduce youth recidivism.

The taskforce is led by Queensland Police Service and has members from several government agencies, including the Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training.

The taskforce has a multi-agency plan to help address youth offending.

Memorandum of understanding and arrangement
The taskforce has an information sharing and services coordination for children charged with offences memorandum of understanding in place to facilitate information sharing between key agencies.
