Social benefit bond - reoffending

On 31 May 2017 the Queensland Government announced its second social benefit bond, which is focused on youth offending.

This bond, known as the Reoffending Bond will allow us to provide a multisystemic therapy (MST) service to young people (10–16 years old) in the South East Queensland youth justice system.

MST is a treatment approach that involves intensive therapy and behaviour management training. It incorporates family and community to address all of the environmental factors that impact chronic and violent young offenders.

It has produced positive results for children in the youth justice system, reducing the severity and duration of future offending behaviour.

This bond reflects our commitment to reduce reoffending rates among young people through early intervention. It will provide this much-needed service through private investment and will focus on deliverable social outcomes.

We will refer up to 600 young people to the service over a 5-year period. We will work with Life Without Barriers to change the direction of young people who are at high risk of reoffending.

Life Without Barriers have MST teams in Shailer Park and North Lakes.

They will take referrals from the following youth justice service centres:

  • Gold Coast
  • Logan
  • Ipswich
  • Western Districts
  • Redlands
  • Brisbane South
  • Brisbane North
  • Moreton
  • Caboolture
  • Sunshine Coast

The Reoffending Bond will offer the opportunity for positive change in the lives of young offenders, their families and communities across South East Queensland.
