3. QMEA's outcomes at a glance

The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy’s (QMEA) activities are supporting a pipeline of talented young girls into STEM industries across 3 phases:

• Stimulating Interest and Making Connections (Years 7 to 9)
• Informing Decisions and Influencing Pathways (Year 10)
• Challenging and Preparing (Years 11 to 12).

The results are speaking for themselves with a continual increase in the number of female students participating in a mining related apprenticeship or traineeship. For example, 13% of female QMEA students in apprenticeships or traineeships were employed in the mining industry compared to 2% female non-QMEA students (Source: 2019 https://qmea.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/QMEA-OUTCOMES-2019.pdf (PDF)).
