Youth justice

In some cases, a child or young person subject to child protection intervention by our department will also be subject to youth justice services administered by the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General's youth justice functions include:

  • the administration of the Youth Justice Act 1992 (PDF)
  • the management of:
    • youth detention centres
    • youth justice service centres
    • youth justice conferencing
    • court services specific to youth justice proceedings
  • undertaking intervention with children involved in the youth justice system.
