Youth justice

In some cases, a child or young person subject to child protection intervention will also be subject to youth justice services administered by the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.

The Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs youth justice functions include:

• the administration of the Youth Justice Act 1992
• the management of:
  • youth detention centres
  • youth justice service centres
  • youth justice conferencing
  • court services specific to youth justice proceedings
• undertaking intervention with children involved in the youth justice system.
