Support service case

A support service case refers to short-term interventions by the department to provide , or help provide preventative and support services to pregnant women and young people transitioning to adulthood.  It is based on an agreement by the pregnant woman or young person to work with our department, and does not require the use of a court order.

There are two types of support service cases. A support service case may be provided:

• when it is determined that an unborn child is likely to be in need of protection when born and the pregnant woman agrees to work with our department to reduce the likelihood of harm to the child after they are born.
• when a young person has been in care and we want continue assisting and supporting the young person after they have turned 18.
