For those not on the "relevant degree" train but eager to dip toes into the field, our work experience options are perfect for gaining valuable hands-on experience. Student placements

If you want to apply for a student placement with us, our requirements are:

  • You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • You must be currently enrolled in a relevant degree course that contains a mandatory placement component to satisfy curriculum learning and study outcomes which is an Australian Registered Training Organisation. Relevant degree courses could include (but not limited to) social work, human services or social welfare, psychology or behavioural science, law, human resources, accounting etc.
  • Your placement start and finish dates should be within the academic year and cannot exceed 240 hours in total (or more than 30 days) unless otherwise agreed between the parties.
  • You must be covered by your education provider's liability and workers' compensation insurance policies and be able to provide a copy of their Certificate of Currency to the department prior to any placement commencing.
  • You must undergo a criminal history check by the department.
  • You must hold a current Blue Card if you are seeking a placement working with children (aged 0–18 years).

Please note: Students are not eligible for payment nor are they considered employees of the department at any time.

How to apply

  2. Send an email to workexperience@cyjma.qld.gov.au together with a copy of your:
  • completed form
  • current resume
  • current Blue Card — if seeking a placement working with children (0–18 years).

Please note: Due to the volume of applications we receive, incomplete applications will not be progressed and will be returned to you.

If you are under 18 years of age written consent from your parent or guardian must also accompany your student placement request form.

You will be contacted and advised of the outcome of your application.
